2018-19 School Year, Volume 13, Issue 3

We hope everyone had a great long weekend and Thanksgiving holiday. In this season of giving, we ask that you consider joining or renewing your family's annual PTSA membership. This is a one-time commitment you can make for your student to support their education at Grand Ridge Elementary - no strings attached!

For every member who joins or renews through December 14, we have an opportunity to win money for our school from the Washington State PTA. When you join Grand Ridge PTSA:

  • You have a say in how funds are raised and used at Grand Ridge
  • You help determine which programs and activities are offered at Grand Ridge (like Spelling Bee & STEM Club)
  • You save money with discounts from the state and national PTA - from PNW's Nutcracker to Great Wolf Lodge
Not sure if you already signed up? Click on My Account on the left hand side of the GrandRidgePTSA.org and look to see if a membership is noted under Orders. If not, it only takes a minute to sign up today!

Go on a wild reading adventure! Scholastic “Enchanted Forest” Book Fair coming Dec. 4-7, 8:30am to 5:00pm in the library. Stop by before or after parent teacher conferences. Support our school library while purchasing affordable holiday gifts for your students or teachers.

Volunteers are needed to make book fair happen! Sign up for a 2-hour shift, Dec 3-7, to help with set up, sales, or clean up needs.

We are excited to recognize Adriana Stamenova as our Volunteer of the Month for leading our Box Tops program. This fun program raises over $1500 for Grand Ridge and gets both students and teachers involved in some friendly competition.

Adriana is originally from Bulgaria although she moved with her husband and kids to the Highlands four years ago from Minnesota. She has a daughter in fourth grade as well as a daughter in seventh grade at PCMS. Although her background is in Corporate Finance and she could easily be a translator given that she speaks FIVE languages (Bulgarian, Russian, English, German and Korean), we've been lucky that she has become an active volunteer at Grand Ridge. In addition to leading Box Tops, she volunteers in the classroom, the Art Docent Program, Staff Appreciation Lunch, Cultural Fair/Cultural Club, and more. Thank you Adriana for all that you do!

Check the Lost & Found for lost items during teacher conference days. Items not claimed will be tagged for donation and donated over Dec Break.

WA State PTA Legislative Assembly

Carrie Mount, Grand Ridge PTSA's Advocacy Director, recently attended the 2018 Legislative Assembly to vote on the two-year legislative platform for the organization. The selected priorities from the 2018 Assembly are: (1) Social Emotional Learning; (2) School Construction and Simple Majority for Bonds; (3) Prevent Gun Violence; (4) Strategies to Address the Teacher Shortage; and (5) Strategic K–12 Investments to Close Gaps.

Voting on the priorities is just one way PTSA members can make a difference - any member can submit a proposal for consideration. And a membership with high participation numbers supports Carrie's role and any conversations we want her to have with local legislators.
