2018-19 School Year, Volume 13, Issue 6

Hard to believe we are in March already! This month we look back and celebrate, we revel in our largest event of the school year, and we start to plan for next year. In our General Meeting on Mar 21 at 7pm, we will announce the winners of our annual awards, celebrating those who have had a significant impact on the Grand Ridge community in the past year, and also recognize our Silver Award for Membership Growth.

We will then vote on new leaders for the 2019-20 school year. The nomination committee has prepared its recommendations and has great candidates lined up in several key positions, but we still have openings in both board and committee positions for the year. If we want to continue to offer the breadth of programs and events at Grand Ridge, we will need more parents to help make it happen. If you have any questions about how you might be able to help in any capacity, contact Kim at grptsavolunteers@gmail.com

And the final preparations are underway for our marquee event, the Cultural Fair next Wednesday. We have more than 45 countries and cultures from around the world ready to share with the community, several international food trucks so you don't need to make dinner, and traditional entertainment on our Multicultural Stage. See you there!

Volunteer of the Month: Preetha Mohan Sagar

Although just having moved to the Issaquah Highlands in November, Preetha has become a friendly face around the halls of Grand Ridge. Preetha, her husband and son (who is in Ms. Bankson's first grade class) moved to our community from Greensboro, NC. She loves the school environment and the energy of the kids and teachers. And they’ve benefited from her energy volunteering in the classroom and with art projects, helping with Popcorn Fridays, and leading STEM Club activities.

We’re so happy to have Preetha and her family in the Issaquah Highlands community and appreciate all she is doing to support Grand Ridge!

The March 29 deadline to order 2018-19 yearbooks is coming up soon! Make sure you've ordered one for your student(s). Not sure if you ordered one already? Click on My Account and look under the Orders section.

Author Suzanne Selfors comes to Grand Ridge

The PTSA is pleased to support the Grand Ridge library in bringing author Suzanne Selfors to the school on Tuesday, March 19. Ms. Selfors began writing when her youngest child started school and now has several children’s book series and stand-alone titles. She will be leading two assemblies during the school day at Grand Ridge speaking about “How an Idea Becomes a Book.” If your student would like to order one of her books to be inscribed and signed, follow the instructions here and place an order by Monday, March 11.

This visit is made possible because of the contributions made during our PTSA’s annual Orange Ruler fundraiser.

Snow days can’t stop Grand Ridge spellers!

Grand Ridge’s first spelling bees had to be rescheduled until after mid-winter break due to the crazy snow days, but all the participants showed they weren’t going to let a little snow stop their spelling! More than 100 students across all five grades participated in the three spelling bee nights. And we will be cheering on 5th grade winner Riya Jonnala as she competes at the state level.

The spelling bees could not have happened without our wonderful teacher judges – Lindsey DeHaan, Andi Springer, Trisha Snyder, Laura Gabica, Kaitlyn Wright, and Laura Sweat – and the PTSA Spelling Bee Chair Minal Desai-Monga. Thank you for making this a special night for all of our student participants!
