We are halfway through fall trimester already!  Time sure does fly when there are so many fun things going on!  Thank you to the volunteers, families, teachers, staff, and community for all you do to make our school truly GRAND.

Falloween

It’s time for Grand Ridge’s favorite fall DANCE PARTY!  Join us on Wednesday, October 23 from 6-8pm for dancing, a pumpkin decorating contest, and fun with friends.  The first half hour will be quieter and more sensory friendly.  Costumes are encouraged but not required.  Please check out our costume guidelines before choosing your costume.  There will be food and drinks for purchase so bring cash if you would like to buy anything there.

Box Tops

Our fall box tops campaign is underway!  Now through October 25, send in your box tops with your student(s).  Each box top is worth 10¢ and that adds up quickly!  Money earned from box tops helps to fund PTSA programs.  You can also collect box tops digitally using the box tops app.  It’s quick, easy, and you can still credit your student.  For more information, check out our box tops page.  Classrooms with the most physical box tops by October 25 will win free popcorn!

Reflections Art Contest Deadline approaching

This year’s Reflections Art Program theme is “Look Within”. Students can use their creative talents to express themselves through original art work on this theme.  There are 6 categories. Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video, and Choreography/Dance. Students may submit up to 2 entries per category, and they can enter in all categories if they are feeling extra creative.  Entries are due on Monday, October 28.  For more information, please visit our website. The Reflections Exhibition & Reception will take place on November 13 at 6:45pm.  Stop by and see all the artwork our students have created.

Vision & Hearing screening

Vision & Hearing screening will take place on November 4.  If your student wears glasses/contacts or a hearing aid, please make sure they have the item(s) with them that day.  If you  have any questions or concerns, or you wish to opt your child out of this screening, please contact our nurse, Keri Weber, at webberk@issaquah.wednet.edu.  We could use a few volunteers to help screening go smoothly.

PTSA Open House

Whether you’re new to Grand Ridge or have been at Grand Ridge for many years, we want to invite you to our PTSA open house.  This is a chance to meet other families, visit with families you already know, and learn more about what the PTSA is and what we do for our school.  Children are welcome and light refreshments will be served.  We have an evening option on Thursday, November 7 from 6-7pm and a morning option on Friday, November 8 from 9-10am.  Both will be in Portable 10.  This is a very informal event so please feel free to pop in and out when it works for you. Hope to see you there!

Volunteer of the Month

Our volunteer of the month is Kristen Peoples!  Kristen is so helpful around the school, serving as room parent, grizzly gear coordinator, and taking charge of updating our reader board twice a week for the last two months.  We really appreciate her and the support she gives to our school in these ways. Thank you for all you do Kristen!

Recess Opportunities – Grizzly Garden, Cultural Club, and Grizzly Guys

The PTSA offers several activities for students to engage in during 2nd recess (1:40-3:00pm) on Thursdays and Fridays.  This is a way for students to have fun and even learn something new!

On Thursdays in the fall and spring, there is the Grizzly Patch.  Students can learn about gardening and help in the garden.  Our garden does need some help from volunteers to tidy it up and to help engage students during the time.  Consider spending an afternoon in the garden!

During the colder, rainier months we offer an indoor program each year, held in Portable 10.  This year we are offering Cultural Club. This program gives students the opportunity to learn about a country and its culture.  Cultural Club returns on November 14.  Check out the schedule to know which countries your student(s) can learn about.  We could use volunteers to help our hosts to keep the activities going.

On the last Friday of every month, our Grizzly Guys join in on the fun.  They are dads, grandfathers, uncles, or any other positive male role model who participate in fun activities planned for the kids, such as whiffle ball, basketball, Jenga, or even board games on rainy days.  Students can find them on the playground or in Portable 10 depending upon the activity.  If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Grizzly Guy, please sign up!

After School Movies

After School Movies are a fun way for your kiddos to spend some time after school. We will show Halloween short films (PG) on Wednesday, Oct 30 and Detective Pikachu (PG) on Wednesday, Nov 13 for your student's enjoyment, immediately after school. Each After School Movie date is open to all grades (K-5) and there are 100 first-come-first-served spots available for each movie. A $10 donation is requested per Grand Ridge student. Registration for the movie is due no later than the Monday before the showing you wish to attend. No exceptions. Go to http://grandridgeptsa.org to register your child and sign-up to volunteer.  Once your child's spot is reserved, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. For questions, please email jess_russi@yahoo.com.

Introduction to Digital Photography class

New this year, we are offering an after school photography class.  Introduction to Digital Photography is taught by our Art Docent chair, Angela Bizzari.  This 9-week class will be open to 20 students from 4th and 5th grade and will take place on Wednesdays from mid-November through January.  More information to come soon!

Staff Appreciation Breakfast

Every few months, we like to host a staff appreciation event to thank our staff for all the amazing things they do.  On November 13, we are hosting a breakfast.  If you would like to contribute to this breakfast, please sign up

Java with Jill

Thank you to those who were able to make it for the Java with Jill session on Wednesday, October 16.  Mrs. Ravenscraft spoke about inclusion.  There was also plenty of time for questions on anything people had been curious about.  As we look to future Java with Jill events, we’d like to know what times work best for you and what you’d like to see covered at these sessions. Please fill out this short survey to give us your feedback.

Parent Education

ParentWiser hosts several parent education events through the year.  Look for information on these through PeachJar, various newsletters, social media posts, and their website.  These events are FREE to PTSA members.  Non-PTSA members are asked to donate $10 to attend.  Did you miss an event, or would you like to see one again?  PTSA members can watch online!

PTSA Meeting

Join us on Tuesday, November 19 at 9am in Portable 10 for our next PTSA meeting.  Hear updates from the PTSA about our programs, updates from Mrs. Ravenscraft regarding things going on at Grand Ridge, and also hear from our Jake Kuper, ISD Chief of Finance & Operations, who will be discussing the 2020 renewal/replacement levy

Lost & Found

Our lost and found area fills up quickly in this weather!  The lost and found area is by the stairway near the first-grade hallway.  Stop by if your child is missing something.
