We are back in the swing of things and our calendar is full of wonderful events and opportunities for our Grand Ridge families.  Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped make these events possible.  We truly couldn’t do this without you!  Tomorrow is Family Engineering Night.  If you didn’t register, don’t worry.  You can still attend!  Also, don’t forget to send in your gently used books this week so we can have a great Book Swap after we return from break.  Hope you all enjoy your mid-winter break next week!

Who made a different for your student in 2019?  Take a few minutes to nominate a teacher, volunteer, or community member for a PTSA Award.  Parents, staff, students, and community members are all encouraged to submit a nomination for Outstanding Educator, Outstanding Advocate, and/or Golden Acorn Volunteer awards.  Nominations are due by Monday, February 24!

Launch Yourself Into a Book!

Our bi-annual book swap is on February 27 from 6-8pm in the MPR.  Join us for free cookies, milk, and fun activities while you look for new-to-you books!  You do not need to donate books to attend this event.  Students must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteer of the Month

Our volunteer of the month is Sherry Hassard!  Sherry’s granddaughter is in Ms. Moore’s classroom and Sherry is there every week to help students in the class in addition to having volunteered with vision & hearing and the book fair this year.  Sherry’s dedication to Grand Ridge is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for all you do Sherry!

PTSA Meeting

Join us on Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm in the Grand Ridge Library for our PTSA Meeting.  After briefly discussing business, we will have a parent panel ready to answer questions you may have about the transition to middle school.

Be Prepared!

It was great to have Brenda Bramwell, the City of Issaquah's Emergency Management Coordinator speak with us on January 30. She touched on different types of disasters and key steps to take to be prepared for a variety of situations. If you missed it, there is a great training opportunity coming in up March for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) as well as other good resources on how to be informed and prepared.  Check out the information here

Science Fair

Our bi-annual Science Fair is upon us.  Students attended our kick off assembly on February 7.  If they would like, kids can work on a science project at home to bring to school for the Science Fair and Expo event on March 18.  This can be done as an individual or a group project. More details, including registration, can be found on our Science Fair page.  The registration deadline is February 28.  We also need volunteers to make this event happen.  Sign up for your volunteer position today.  If you have middle or high school students, this is a great way for them to log some service hours as well.

Grizzlies Night Out

Save the Date!  Grizzlies Night Out is on Friday, April 3 at Pickering Barn for all Grand Ridge grown-ups.  Come out to enjoy a casual, fun evening with our community and raise money to support our school. There will be food, games, raffles, a short “live” auction and more! If you want to get involved, we are currently looking for desirable donations, such as tickets to popular events, vacation rentals, technology, gift cards, etc. Details on our Grizzlies Night Out page.  Tickets will go on sale on February 24.

After School Movies

Join us for After School Movies on select Wednesdays through this year.  We will be showing Stuart Little on March 11 and The Lego Movie 2 on March 25.  Each After School Movie date is open to all grades (K-5) and there are 100 first-come-first-served spots available for each movie. A $10 donation is requested per Grand Ridge student. Registration for the movie is due no later than the Monday before the showing you wish to attend. No exceptions. Click here to register your child and sign-up to volunteer.  Once your child's spot is reserved, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. For questions, please email jess_russi@yahoo.com.

Rescheduled Mary Poppins Returns date

The showing of Mary Poppins Returns was cancelled in January due to snow.  It has been rescheduled to April 8, 2020.  If you had registered your student(s) for the January showing, they are automatically still registered for the April showing.  If you wish to remain as such, you do not need to do anything.  If you do not wish to have your student(s) attend the April showing, please email jess_russi@yahoo.com and she can go over how to obtain a refund or how to apply your payment to a different movie this school year.

Cultural Club

Our Cultural Club has been having a GRAND time this winter.  Students have “visited” many countries and learned about their cultures.  Check out photos from past events and see the schedule for future events here.

Art Docents

Our Art Docents have been busy in the classrooms each month, helping all our students create some amazing art.  Learn more about the program and check out some of the art they’ve created on our Art Docent page

Playground Committee

Are you interested in helping with a project to add colorful painted games, activities, and designed to our playground?  Sign up to be a part of the Playground Committee.  The first meeting will take place on February 26 at 9:15am in Portable 10.

Volunteer Opportunities

We always have opportunities available for those who wish to volunteer outside of the classroom.  While many opportunities are during the day, we also have many that are in the evening and even some you can do from home.  There are also options where you can bring your children with you.  Check out our volunteer opportunities.  If you have questions, please connect with our Volunteer Director, Kainoa Patterson at grptsavolunteers@gmail.com
