Happy New Year!  We hope you all had a wonderful winter break and that you were able to get out and enjoy the snow on our unexpected days off.  Our return to school this month has been anything but boring!  Thank you all for your understanding and flexibility with the rescheduling of our January events.

Levies are the only locally approved ballot measures that directly pay for classroom and education needs in our schools that the state does not fund. This February 11, 2020 voters will have a chance to continue supporting programs and services funded by the previous levy expiring in 2020.

The 2020 EP&O Renewal Levy Continues Support For:

Career & Technical Education • Mental Health Counselors in our schools • Special Education • Early Childhood Learning • Safety and Security • Highly Capable Programs • Dual Language • After School Activities and Athletics

This is NOT a new tax. The proposed 2-year levy replaces the expiring 2018 levy at a lower overall tax rate. With voter approval of this renewal levy, we can ensure these programs continue benefiting our students for another 2 years. Please click on the links below for more information and why you should VOTE YES for our schools on February 11th!

Volunteer of the Month

Our volunteer of the month is Latha Veerarghaven!  Latha has been a long time, dedicated volunteer who has spent many hours volunteering at our school since she moved from India in 2015.  This school year, she can frequently be seen in the classroom and the library.  Thank you for all you do for our school community Latha!

PTSA Meeting - Rescheduled

Are you new to living in an earthquake area? Or maybe your new year’s resolution is to create a home emergency kit but you don’t know where to start. Then join us on Thursday, January 30 at 7pm in the Grand Ridge library where the City of Issaquah’s Emergency Management Coordinator will talk with us about emergency preparedness. We’ll also do a brief update on PTSA financials and programs as well as elect a Nomination Committee to recruit for elected PTSA Board of Director positions. Children are welcome at the meeting. We hope to see you there!

Spelling Bee - Rescheduled

Grand Ridge’s annual Spelling Bee has been rescheduled to February 3, 4, and 5.  Visit our Spelling Bee page on our website for more information and for spelling lists by grade. Please join us in supporting the students who are participating.  All are welcome to attend. Volunteers are needed to help this event run smoothly. Sign up here!

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child that will be 5 on or before August 31, 2020 and you live within the Grand Ridge attendance area?

If so, you are invited to a parent only Kindergarten Registration Information Night on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:00pm in the Grand Ridge Commons (MPR). Grand Ridge staff will go over the process for registering our kindergartners who will attend either Challenger or Endeavor Elementary School for their kindergarten year only.  They will answer questions and review the online registration process in detail.

Family Engineering Night

Family Engineering night on Wednesday, February 12 from 6-8pm is a chance to have interactive STEM experiences and enjoy learning TOGETHER.  The hands-on activities promote the engineering process, scientific thinking, and an opportunity to learn and play as a family.  Sign up by February 5th to ensure we have enough materials for everyone.

Grizzlies Night Out

Save the Date!  Grizzlies Night Out is on Friday, April 3 at Pickering Barn for all Grand Ridge grown-ups.  Come out to enjoy a casual, fun evening with our community and raise money to support our school. There will be food, games, raffles, a short “live” auction and more! If you want to get involved, we are currently looking for desirable donations, such as tickets to popular events, vacation rentals, technology, gift cards, etc. Details on our Grizzlies Night Out page.

After School Movies

After School Movies will be showing The Lego Ninjago Movie on January 29, and Ramona and Beezus on February 12.  Each After School Movie date is open to all grades (K-5) and there are 100 first-come-first-served spots available for each movie. A $10 donation is requested per Grand Ridge student. Registration for the movie is due no later than the Monday before the showing you wish to attend. No exceptions. Click here to register your child and sign-up to volunteer.  Once your child's spot is reserved, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. For questions, please email jess_russi@yahoo.com.

Book Swap

Our bi-annual book swap is returning on February 27.  Start setting aside any gently used books your family is ready to pass on.  Collection starts in early February.

Science Fair

It’s almost Science Fair time! We get things started in school on February 7 when the Pacific Science Center presents at two assemblies for all grades. Kids can then work on a science project at home to bring to school for the Science Fair and Expo event on March 18. Parents we’d love for you to share your love of science too! More details on Science Fair coming soon.

Box Tops

Box Tops have gone digital so there aren’t many paper ones to clip anymore! That means we won’t have classroom box top contests going forward, but if you do still have any physical, unexpired Box Tops in your drawers, you can send them into the office by Friday, February 14 and they still raise money for Grand Ridge!

Volunteer Opportunities

We always have opportunities available for those who wish to volunteer outside of the classroom.  While many opportunities are during the day, we also have many that are in the evening and even some you can do from home.  There are also options where you can bring your children with you.  Check out our volunteer opportunities.  If you have questions, please connect with our Volunteer Director, Kainoa Patterson at grptsavolunteers@gmail.com
